Huntsville, AL, August 23, 2023 – Free 2 Teach and Redstone Federal Credit Union are celebrating 7 years and $180,699.10 in earnings of its Free 2 Teach Affinity Card Program. With every purchase made by a Free 2 Teach Affinity Card user, Redstone donates 10 cents to the education nonprofit, providing significant monthly funding to support public school children and teachers with supplies and resources.
“We are so proud to partner with Free 2 Teach to engage the community in getting involved in supporting education,” says President and CEO of Redstone Federal Credit Union, Joe Newberry. “My mother was a teacher and I know how hard they work and how much they often have to spend out of pocket. We look forward to growing this Affinity Program and our support of their work.”
In addition to the Affinity Card Program, Redstone supports Free 2 Teach as a Distinguished Partner with additional funds going towards the operations and overall costs of running the free store. As one of the founding partners and one of their largest donors, Redstone has helped Free 2 Teach give away over $1.6 million in school supplies last school year and $11.4 million in supplies in total.
“Not only has the card brought in significant, vital funding for our organization, it engages the community to give back and helps spread the word about our work to support teachers,” shares Free 2 Teach Executive Director, Alison Kling. “Since opening our doors for the 23-24 school year in mid-July, we have already served over 1200 teachers and every shop has been full. We couldn’t do this without the strong and steady partnership of Redstone, and the growing number of Free 2 Teach Affinity Card users. We are very thankful!”
The Free 2 Teach store is open year-round and welcomes public school teachers and staff from Madison City, Huntsville City and Madison County public schools. Educators can shop monthly for items they need for their students, lessons, and classrooms, and leave with an average of $500 in their carts.
