When Mrs. Battle retired in 2008, she and her friends began to discuss ways that they could impact classrooms. Famously they had a box of binders that they wanted to donate and it all grew from there. Eula co-founded Free 2 Teach and began supporting teachers in 2011, giving away $38,000 in supplies their first year open. The store grew from there and has now given away a total of $13,490.99 in supplies and resources to teachers in all three public school systems in Madison County, supporting 88 schools, 55,000+ kids and thousands of teachers, school nurses, speech therapists, librarians… the list goes on.
When Eula passed away in 2020, we lost a wonderful friend and an amazing leader. Her legacy of service and compassion lives on every day in the lives of many she touched, organizations and people across our community. We are so honored to carry her vision for equipping and investing in teachers forward to the next generation of children in our community.
